A Sidekick Initiative community walk.
Volunteer

Become a Sidekick.

Sidekicks help deliver lived-experience mental health support, workshops and community events across Portsmouth and Hampshire. You don't need a qualification. You need to care.

Application form

This is the main way in. Fill this in and it comes straight to us. Everything marked required needs an answer, the rest is optional.

About you
What you'd like to do

Choose at least one. You can change your mind later.

Availability
Which days generally suit
Experience and training

Qualifications are not required. Training can be provided.

A DBS check is required for work with young people or in custodial settings. Sidekick Initiative can help arrange one.

About your motivation

Only share what you are comfortable sharing. This is optional.

Safeguarding and references

Having a conviction does not rule you out. Sidekick Initiative is built on lived experience. We ask so we can have an honest conversation and put the right support in place.

Volunteers help with community walks, events, workshops, comms, admin, driving, or just being another honest presence in the room. Whatever fits your life.

How it works: you send the application form, we have an informal chat about the fit and what you would like to do, then we complete safeguarding checks, including references and a DBS check where the role needs one.

Can't use the form?

The form is the best way to apply. If you can't use it, message us and we will take your application another way.
